1964: "You Really Got Me" by the Kinks is released in Britain.
1969: The three-day Woodstock Music and Art Fair concludes in upstate New York. One of the day's memorable moments is Pete Townshend of the Who knocking Yippie Abbie Hoffman off the stage during the performance of "Tommy."
1989: Actor Kenneth Branagh marries actress Emma Thompson. They later divorce.
1992: Actor- director Woody Allen admits being romantically involved with Soon-Yi Previn, the 21-year-old adopted daughter of his longtime companion, actress Mia Farrow.
1994: Actor David Caruso quits the cast of "NYPD Blue" to pursue a movie career. Actor Jimmy Smits joins the cast.
2000: Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche announce they are breaking up. Just hours later, Ms. Heche is hospitalized after she wanders disoriented into a stranger's home in Fresno County, Calif.
2000: Fifty-one million people tune in to watch the final episode of "Survivor" during which Richard Hatch is named the million-dollar winner.
2007: Nicole Richie spends 82 minutes in jail for driving under the influence of drugs in Los Angeles. She had been sentenced to four days.
